As the excitement builds for Dora 2025, one name that has been gaining attention is Petar Brkljačić, an artist whose heartfelt entry, “KRAJ,” has struck a chord with fans and critics alike. Known for his emotive voice and raw storytelling, Petar is set to deliver a performance that promises both intimacy and impact.

In this exclusive interview, we delve into his journey to Dora, the inspiration behind his song, and his vision for the stage. Petar opens up about his creative process, the emotional depth of “KRAJ,” and his hopes for the future, both at Dora and beyond. Whether you’re a long-time fan or just discovering his music, this conversation offers a glimpse into the mind of an artist who is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve.

1. Hello Petar! What inspired you to participate in Dora 2025 and how did you feel when you first found out you would be in the competition?

Participating in Dora has always been a dream of mine. It’s such a prestigious platform, not only in Croatia but also as part of the larger Eurovision journey. When I found out I was selected, it was an overwhelming mix of joy, gratitude, and excitement. I felt honored to have the opportunity to share my music with a wider audience and represent something deeply personal on such a respected stage.

2. “KRAJ” has been praised for its emotional depth and beautiful melody. Could you tell us about the inspiration behind the song? What story or message does it carry?

“KRAJ” is a very personal song for me. It’s about closure and the strength that comes with letting go, whether that’s in relationships, life’s challenges, or personal growth. The song is both melancholic and empowering—it acknowledges pain but also celebrates resilience. The melody reflects this emotional journey, blending vulnerability with hope. I wanted to create something that feels universal, yet intimate, so listeners can find their own story in it.

3. Eurovision often demands standout staging. Can you share any hints about what we can expect from your performance at Dora?

Without giving too much away, I can promise the staging will be intimate yet striking. The focus will be on the emotions of the song, but we’re working on subtle visual elements that enhance the atmosphere. It’s not about grand effects—it’s about creating a connection with the audience. Expect something elegant, heartfelt, and true to the story of “KRAJ.”

4. Fans have described your voice as “divine” and the song as “a balm for the soul.” How do you feel about the overwhelmingly positive reactions from the audience?

Honestly, it’s incredibly humbling. As an artist, you pour so much of yourself into your work, but you never truly know how people will respond. Hearing that my voice and the song resonate with people on such a deep level is the greatest reward. It reminds me why I do what I do—to touch hearts and create something meaningful.

5. Some fans see “KRAJ” as a ‘dark horse’ for Dora. Do you consider yourself an underdog, and does that motivate you?

I don’t mind being seen as an underdog—it’s actually a position I find empowering. It motivates me to give my absolute best and surprise people. “KRAJ” might not be the most conventional choice, but I believe in the strength of its message and its ability to connect with people. Sometimes, the most unexpected songs can make the deepest impact.

6. What drives your passion for music, and how do you handle both praise and criticism as an artist?

Music has always been my way of expressing what words alone can’t. It’s my connection to the world and to myself. As for handling praise and criticism, I try to stay grounded. Praise is incredibly encouraging, but I also listen to constructive criticism—it helps me grow. At the end of the day, I remind myself why I create music and focus on staying authentic to my artistry.

7. If you win Dora and go to Eurovision, how would you adapt the song and performance for the international stage?

If I were to represent Croatia at Eurovision, I’d want to preserve the emotional essence of “KRAJ” while elevating the production to suit the international stage. That might mean refining the arrangement slightly or enhancing the visuals to make a bigger impact in a larger arena. The goal would be to remain authentic to the song’s story while ensuring it resonates with a global audience.
