Image
Was that a Eurovision voting reveal? No, it was Sweden's election night. Sweden held its general election on Sunday, but for Eurovision fans watching the country's television coverage, the evening looked strangely familiar. As SVT presented its exit poll and the first election results, viewers were treated to dramatic graphics, split screens, live reactions from political parties and plenty of suspense. The format immediately reminded Eurovision fans of the moment when the votes are revealed during the world's biggest music competition. And social media quickly noticed. “A country so in love with Eurovision they make their election results like it. I'm obsessed.” Another user simply asked: “Why do they announce it like Eurovision hahaha” Others joked that their timelines were suddenly full of Swedish election content because it looked so much like Eurovision. “My TL is full of Swedish elections stuff 😭 why is it so Eurovision” One Eurovision fan summed up the feeling p...

The overwhelming experience eventually helped him understand that he was autistic. Eurovision has long been known for its colourful performances, huge crowds and intense atmosphere. But for British television critic and writer Scott Bryan , the contest also became the setting for a deeply personal realisation. In a new personal essay published by The Guardian , Bryan explains how his lifelong passion for Eurovision eventually played a role in his autism diagnosis at the age of 34. Bryan had followed Eurovision since childhood and had dreamed of working at the contest if it ever returned to the UK. That dream finally became reality in 2023, when Liverpool hosted the competition and Bryan attended as a TV critic. He arrived at the Eurovision media centre before many others and was excited to spend the week covering the contest. However, Eurovision week turned ...
