Ralph Siegel Submits New Song for Eurovision 2027 With Dschinghis Khan

Eurovision legend Ralph Siegel is hoping to return to the contest in 2027 with the iconic German group Dschinghis Khan.

The 80 year old composer has submitted a new song for Germany's Eurovision 2027 selection, with Dschinghis Khan set to perform the entry if it is chosen.

Siegel revealed the news in an interview with Schlagerpuls, saying that the song has already been submitted for the German national selection. He is now hoping to secure a place in “Das Deutsche Finale 2027”, Germany's selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.

“I simply wish to be in the national final. That would be the greatest joy at my age,” Siegel said.

A song created during his coma

The story behind the song is particularly unusual.

Siegel previously revealed that the musical idea came to him while he was in an induced coma following a serious illness earlier this year. After waking up, he remembered the melody and described it as an extraordinary composition.

At the time, it was not known which artist would perform the song. Siegel has now confirmed that the composition was specifically written for Dschinghis Khan.

The composer is highly confident in the song, calling it “one of the best numbers I have written in my life.”

Dschinghis Khan's Eurovision history

A return with Dschinghis Khan would bring Siegel back to one of the most memorable chapters of his Eurovision career.

Dschinghis Khan represented West Germany at the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem with their legendary song “Dschinghis Khan”. The group finished fourth, giving Germany one of its strongest results of the 1970s.

Siegel himself later achieved Eurovision victory in 1982, when Nicole won the contest for Germany with “Ein bisschen Frieden”.

Now, more than four decades after Dschinghis Khan's original Eurovision appearance, Siegel wants to bring the group back to the competition.

After several difficult months and multiple hospital stays, Siegel returned home on September 24. He is now looking ahead to 2027 with a new Eurovision song and a familiar name by his side.

A new petition in Hungary is calling for the country to return to the Eurovision Song Contest , more than seven years after its last participation.
