Sign the Petition to Bring Hungary Back to Eurovision

A new petition in Hungary is calling for the country to return to the Eurovision Song Contest, more than seven years after its last participation.

The petition, published on the Hungarian civic platform SzabadaHang, is addressed to ZoltĂĄn Tarr, Minister for Social Relations and Culture, as well as other decision-makers. It calls for the necessary steps to be taken to bring Hungary back to Eurovision and, if possible, send a Hungarian artist to the next available edition of the contest.

Hungary has not participated in Eurovision since 2019. According to the petition, an entire generation has grown up without being able to support a Hungarian performer on one of Europe's biggest music stages.

The petition argues that Eurovision could provide Hungarian singers, songwriters and music professionals with an opportunity to reach an international audience. It also describes the contest as a way for Hungary to maintain a cultural connection with Europe.

The organisers stress that the campaign is not intended to support any political party or ideology. Instead, they describe Eurovision as a shared cultural experience and call for the return of the Hungarian flag to the contest.

The petition highlights several reasons for Hungary's potential return, including greater international visibility for Hungarian artists, cultural representation, diversity and inclusion, and giving Hungarian viewers the opportunity to support their own representative and vote in the contest.

50 signatures so far

The campaign appears to have gained its first supporters quickly. According to the latest update on the petition page, it had reached 50 signatures on September 15, after passing 25 signatures the previous day.
