Sanremo Introduces International Jury for Eurovision Selection

Italy's Sanremo Music Festival is set to introduce a major change to the way its Eurovision representative is selected in 2027.

According to the official Sanremo 2027 regulations, a new “Performance Night” will take place on Friday, February 19. During this special evening, the 24 competing artists will perform their Sanremo songs again, with performances specifically prepared with Eurovision in mind.

The most significant change concerns the voting system.

International Jury to Have 50% of the Vote

For the Eurovision selection, the result will be determined by two voting groups:

  • 50% Italian public vote

  • 50% International Expert Jury

The international jury will consist of professionals from the international music and entertainment industry.

This means that, for the first time, an international jury will have a direct and decisive role in choosing Italy's Eurovision representative through Sanremo.

Sanremo Winner and Eurovision Representative

Another important change is the clearer separation between winning Sanremo and representing Italy at Eurovision.

The Sanremo winner will still be determined through the festival's own voting system. However, the Eurovision representative will be selected during the new Performance Night.

This gives Italy a dedicated stage for choosing the act that will travel to Eurovision, rather than simply relying on the Sanremo winner.

The 2027 format therefore puts a stronger focus on the Eurovision performance itself, including how each song could work on the international Eurovision stage.

Sign the Petition to Bring Hungary Back to Eurovision

A new petition in Hungary is calling for the country to return to the Eurovision Song Contest , more than seven years after its last participation. The petition, published on the Hungarian civic platform SzabadaHang , is addressed to Zoltán Tarr, Minister for Social Relations and Culture , as well as other decision-makers.
