Basel Faces Accommodation Shortage: “No Rooms Available” (INTERVIEW)
In the wake of Nemo’s spectacular victory at Eurovision
2024, the demand for accommodations in Switzerland has skyrocketed. During a
recent interview with Michaela Popp from Lead Guest Service of Basel Tourismus,
she shared insights into the current situation in Basel, the host city of
Eurovision 2025.
“As you can imagine, the demand for the Eurovision Song
Contest has increased enormously after Nemo’s impressive victory. Numerous
hotel rooms in all potential venues across Switzerland were booked the same night,”
Popp revealed. “There are currently no rooms available in the city of Basel.”
Despite the current scarcity of accommodations, Popp
reassured us that efforts are underway to manage the situation. “We are working
hard to divide up the room contingent of the organizers and are confident that
more rooms will be available in the near future,” she stated.
In addition to expanding the availability of hotel rooms,
temporary accommodations are being arranged for Eurovision fans. “We will be
able to provide more detailed information on this in the coming weeks,” Popp
added.
For those who are still looking for places to stay near
Basel, Michaela Popp offered some alternative locations that are within a
reasonable travel distance and currently have available rooms:
