The Stories Behind Eurovision Logos: Turkey 2004

We genuinely find the 2004 concept to be incredibly creative. Apparently, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) felt the same way, as the iconic heart logo introduced that year has been the main design ever since.

As we all know, the flags of participating countries were placed inside a heart. The slogan for 2004 was “Under the Same Sky,” symbolizing the Turkish people’s spirit of love and tolerance as they welcomed all the participating nations under one shared sky. Additionally, the promotional posters featured Istanbul’s beautiful silhouette, emphasizing the host city’s unique charm.

The Eurovision website in 2004 (eurovision.tv) was much more colorful and professional compared to the previous year. It offered a variety of sections to explore, and the new heart-shaped logo was prominently displayed everywhere. The site’s background design was also aligned with the 2004 theme, reflecting the competition's vibrant identity.

The 2004 contest not only laid the foundation for Eurovision's official logo but also set the tone for the future direction of eurovision.tv. The website offered content in two languages: English and French, a significant improvement from 2003, when it was only available in English and Latvian.

Turkey’s 2004 Eurovision truly marked a turning point, both visually and conceptually, leaving a lasting legacy in the competition's history.
