Five teams, five new songs: Vietnam prepares for Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026

Vietnam has revealed more details about its ambitious selection process for the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026, with five creative teams developing five completely new songs for the country’s confirmed representative, Tóc Tiên.

Vietnamese broadcaster VTV has internally selected Tóc Tiên to represent the country at the first Eurovision Song Contest Asia, following weeks of speculation surrounding the singer’s participation. The 37-year-old artist is one of Vietnam’s best-known pop stars, having built a successful career in music and television since the late 2000s.

Rather than selecting an artist and an already-existing song separately, Vietnam is now putting the focus on creating a song specifically for Tóc Tiên and the international competition.

Five teams, five musical directions

The project, titled “Thanh âm Việt Nam – The Sound of Vietnam”, brings together five creative teams, each tasked with developing an original song for Tóc Tiên.

The teams are S•HUBE, VIZA, TINLE, HIGHLUA and M1 Music, with each bringing a different musical background and creative approach to the project.

The organisers are aiming to showcase different interpretations of contemporary Vietnamese music rather than imposing a single musical formula. The songs can incorporate elements of Vietnamese culture while exploring modern genres including pop, R&B, hip-hop and electronic music.

Among the creatives involved are Vietnamese producers and songwriters such as DUONGK, HAROSE, DUY VŨ, BÁ VƯƠNG, TINLE, JIN, THO BEAT and ROSS NETTY.

The M1 Music team also brings an international dimension to the project, with Swedish producer GUSTAV among its members. He has previously worked with artists including BTS, KATSEYE, Kis-My-Ft2, J Soul Brothers 3 and Travis Japan.

The aim is to find a song that can communicate something distinctly Vietnamese while remaining contemporary enough to connect with audiences across Asia.

Tóc Tiên will perform the winning song

All five songs will be presented during Vietnam’s Song Selection Night, where one entry will be chosen for Tóc Tiên to perform at Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026.

The selection show is scheduled for 3 October 2026 at 21:30 local time and will be broadcast live on VTV3.

This means that while Tóc Tiên has already been chosen as Vietnam’s representative, the song she will take to Bangkok has yet to be determined.

The format gives Vietnam an unusual opportunity to build an entry around an established artist from the beginning, with five separate creative teams effectively competing to create the song that will define her Eurovision Asia debut.

Vietnam prepares for Bangkok

The first Eurovision Song Contest Asia is scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on 14 November 2026.

Vietnam will be among nine participating countries at the inaugural edition, alongside Thailand, South Korea, Bhutan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Nepal, Laos and Bangladesh.

Tóc Tiên’s selection has already attracted significant attention in Vietnam, with her modern musical style and strong stage presence making her one of the country's most high-profile choices for the new Asian competition.

With five creative teams now working on five completely new songs, the next major question for Vietnam is clear: which song will Tóc Tiên take to Bangkok?

The answer will be revealed on 3 October.
