Kosovo Aims for Junior Eurovision Debut

Kosovo appears to be taking another step towards the Eurovision family, with plans to establish a new platform that could eventually lead to the country’s participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

The upcoming “Kosovo Chords 2026” festival will take place in Pristina from 30 October to 1 November 2026, combining modern Albanian music with a dedicated competition for young performers.

According to artistic director Florent Boshnjaku, the festival’s final evening will be dedicated entirely to children aged 9 to 14, who will perform with a professional live orchestra on a large television stage.

Speaking about the festival’s Eurovision ambitions, Boshnjaku revealed that the organisers are working towards a future in which the winning songs could represent Kosovo at Eurovision and Junior Eurovision once RTK becomes a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

“Even for Junior Eurovision, which is dedicated to young people, the opportunity will be created for the winner of the children's festival, organised within the framework of Kosovo Chords, to represent Kosovo in this competition,” Boshnjaku said.

The statement marks one of the clearest indications yet that Kosovo is considering Junior Eurovision participation as part of its long-term plans. However, Kosovo is not currently eligible to participate in the Eurovision contests as an EBU member broadcaster, and any future participation would depend on RTK’s EBU membership and the relevant competition requirements.

The Children’s Music Evening will focus on discovering new talent and encouraging musical creativity among young performers. Children aged 9–14 are eligible to compete, while composers and songwriters from Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro and the wider Albanian diaspora are invited to submit new works.

The organisers also point to RTK’s experience in producing large-scale televised music events over the past three editions as evidence of the broadcaster’s ability to host a competition of this scale.

With Kosovo Chords 2026 set to introduce a dedicated national platform for young singers, the country could be laying the groundwork for a future Junior Eurovision debut should RTK’s path towards EBU membership be completed.
