Meet the Men in the Running: Who Will Host Eurovision 2027?

With Oscar-nominated actress Maria Bakalova reportedly being considered as a potential host for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas, attention is now turning to another important question: Who could join her on the Eurovision stage?

According to Bulgarian media reports, several well-known Bulgarian names are being considered as potential male co-hosts. While BNT and the EBU have not officially confirmed any hosting choices, these are some of the names currently being mentioned.

Julian Kostov

Actor, producer and television personality Julian Kostov is one of the names reportedly in the running. With international acting experience and strong English skills, Kostov could bring an internationally oriented presence to the Eurovision stage. Beyond his acting career, Kostov is the founder of JupiterLights Media and co-founder of Five Oceans alongside Academy Award-nominee Maria Bakalova, with multiple award-winning projects as a producer and director, including Triumph, Bulgaria's official submission for the 97th Academy Awards. Kostov has spoken about the need for greater representation of Slavic and Balkan actors and the normalization of foreign accents on screen. He is slated to appear in the upcoming Netflix feature The Boy in the Iron Box, produced by Guillermo del Toro. 

Vladimir Mihaylov

Actor and musician Vladimir Mihaylov is another potential candidate. Known for his work both on screen and in music, he could offer the combination of performance experience and live-stage confidence needed for Eurovision. He is a Bulgarian singer/songwriter and actor and the front man of the popular Bulgarian groups Safo and Sleng. Prior to being part of Equinox, he was part of the Bulgarian delegation as a backing vocalist for Kristian Kostov in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. As an actor, he has played in two of Bulgaria’s biggest movies of 2017 – Benzin (Heights) and All She Wrote. He is a co-author and co-producer of all songs by Sleng after joining the band. He is a songwriter for many Bulgarian artists. He was invited to play the leading roles in the Bulgarian production of Mamma Mia!. He has worked as a voice actor in the Bulgarian dubbing of animated films like Frozen, Tangled, or The Muppets, among others. Vladimir has been living in the USA a couple of years before coming back in Bulgaria for good. His acting career started from a foreign movie he has taken a part in. He has starred in many foreign movies as well as in the Bulgarian movie "Heights" and the TV series "Brothers". Vladimir is also part of the music band "Rewind". 

Orlin Pavlov

Singer, actor and television personality Orlin Pavlov would be a familiar face to Bulgarian audiences. His experience in entertainment and live performances could make him a natural choice for the role. In 2002, Orlin Pavlov was invited to become the lead singer of the pop group Kaffe. Kaffe was the first Bulgarian band to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv, Ukraine, with the song "Lorraine," which placed 19th in the semi-final with a total of 49 points. In 2015, Orlin Pavlov served on the jury for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which was held in Bulgaria for the first time. His 2014 US tour was a success and included the cities of Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Cape Cod, and Atlanta. In 2016, he participated in the third season of the Bulgarian version of Your Face Sounds Familiar, where celebrity contestants impersonate famous singers.In addition to his singing career, Orlin Pavlov has also pursued acting.


Julian Vergov

One of Bulgaria's most recognizable actors, Julian Vergov has extensive experience in television, film and theatre. His established public profile could also bring a more mature presence to the hosting team. Vergov has starred in various television productions, such as the bTV sitcom She and He (2002–2008). In 2010, he starred in the drama series Glass House where he portrayed Nikolai. In 2012, he appeared as Mr. Savov in Revolution Z: Sex, Lies and Music, and between 2017 and 2019, he starred in Nova's medical drama series Stolen Life. In 2019 and 2020, he was a guest panelist on The Masked Singer. In 2020 and 2021, he was a judge on the Bulgarian adaptation of Your Face Sounds Familiar. In 2015, Vergov won an Icarus award for Best Supporting Actor for the role of Boris Sarafov in the Ivan Vazov National Theatre play The Thessaloniki Conspirators. In 2021, he won the Best Actor award at the Riviera International Film Festival for his role in the Bulgarian drama film German Lessons (2020).


Kristian Kostov

Eurovision fans will already know Kristian Kostov, who represented Bulgaria at Eurovision 2017 and finished in an impressive second place. At just 17, he became one of the contest's youngest-ever participants — and a decade later, could he return to Eurovision in a completely different role? On 11 January 2019, Kostov was revealed as the last of the seven first-round performers competing on the seventh season of China's long-running singing competition, Singer, whose cast consisted of veteran Chinese singers Liu Huan, Chyi Yu, Yang Kun, Wu Tsing-fong, Zhang Xin, and Escape Plan. Kostov was also the youngest contestant in Singer's history at 18. He appeared as an interval act on the night of the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, Austria.

With Burgas preparing to host Eurovision 2027, the choice of presenters will be one of the most anticipated announcements in the coming months.

The hosts are reportedly not expected to be officially revealed before November 2026.
