RTVE to Decide This Week Whether Spain Will Return to Eurovision 2027

Spain’s Eurovision future is set to become clearer this week, as RTVE prepares to decide whether the country will return to the contest in 2027.

The Spanish public broadcaster RTVE is expected to make a decision this week on Spain’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, following the country’s controversial withdrawal from the 2026 competition.

According to Spanish media reports, the RTVE Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, September 16, to discuss whether Spain should participate in next year’s contest in Burgas, Bulgaria.

Spain did not participate in Eurovision 2026 after RTVE decided to withdraw following the European Broadcasting Union’s decision to allow Israel to remain in the contest. RTVE had previously stated that Spain would not participate if Israel took part.

The decision for 2027 comes at a particularly important moment. The official registration deadline for broadcasters is September 15, although participating broadcasters have an additional month to withdraw without financial penalties.

Benidorm Fest is already moving forward

Interestingly, RTVE has continued preparations for Benidorm Fest 2027, despite the uncertainty surrounding Spain’s Eurovision participation.

Almost 900 songs were submitted for the Spanish national selection, while RTVE has already announced that the artists competing in Benidorm Fest 2027 will be revealed on October 13.

This means that RTVE could potentially continue with Benidorm Fest even if a final decision on Eurovision participation has not yet been publicly confirmed.

Will Spain return to Eurovision?

Spain’s possible return would be significant for Eurovision. As a member of the Big Five, Spain automatically qualifies for the Grand Final and is one of the contest’s major financial contributors.

RTVE’s decision will therefore be closely watched by Eurovision fans across Europe.

For now, Spain’s Eurovision 2027 status remains uncertain — but this week could finally provide an answer.

A new petition in Hungary is calling for the country to return to the Eurovision Song Contest , more than seven years after its last participation.
